Well, i always wanted to know, do clown loaches get ich all the time?
It just seems to me that they do. I have 4 now long story i will say just a long long story, anyway it seems they got the ich. Does that happen alot since they are scaleless fish.

Yes, scaleless fish are most succeptable to everything. They are likely the first to show signs of anything out of the ordinary. Most medications are used in half-doses due to the sensitivity of these fish.

so is it hard to keep them
no, but parameters should be perfect and stable before you get them. What size tank do you have them in?

Provided a good qt of any new fish ich isn't too difficult to keep in check... IME
A 55 gallon will last clown loaches about a year to a year and a half, I'd start looking for a new home in a year though, sometimes it takes a while for them to find a new place.
Clown loaches can get anywhere between 14-16 and sometimes bigger so a large tank is needed, a 180 gallon is a good size for a school but bigger is always better. I'd go with at least a 210 gallon for CL, and get about 8 or 10, they're way better with a big group.thumbs2:
Parameters would be soft sand, neutral water and low nitrates and well balanced... a steady hardness and ph is better than one that fluctuates, so if you would need to bring it up or lower it I would just let them acclimate to your normal water, since fluctuating like that is stressful and stress lowers the immune system and they're already slightly more sensitive on that scale than others... yeah

Mine have never had it and they're 3 years old. I had a couple rainbows in the same tank with them that got it but not the loaches. I pulled out the bows that had it right away and treated them in another tank.

Clown Loaches should get ich no more often (but they are more susceptible) than other fish...if you are doing things correctly. I have had one ich outbreak in the several years of having them.
If yours are getting ich "all the time" you are either keeping them at too low of a temp or they are being stressed by either fish or another tank parameter. either way husbandry is at fault.

I haven't had Ich in more than 30 years, Ich is a result of stress

I've never had ick....but I can't keep a Clown Loach alive in my water long term. I can't figure out why so I've given up...
