I have been thinking about getting some Gouramis for my planted 20g tall community tank. I currently have 10 neon tetras, 1 glass catfish (the lone survivor of a die off), and an upsidedown catfish.

I was thinking of getting a M/F pair of some kind of gourami, probably dwarf, but I'm still undecided.

-Will they be aggressive towards each other?
-Are the males only aggressive towards other males?

I know that the males get aggressive towards females after mating, but will mating have to be triggered, or will they 'do it':ssuprised: on their own?

Thx for any input or lessons learned from keeping gourami.

The answer depend very much on what gourami you end up getting. Some species like the blue gourami can be aggressive against everything.

I don't think you can do one full sized gourami in a 20H, let alone a pair. They do get to be pretty big fish. A single dwarf gourami is your best bet.

You could do a couple of honey gourami. They are quite peaceful. You could also do a group of sparkling gouramis.

I would agree with Jaysee a sinlge dwarf male would be your best bet.
