:ssuprised: Hay everyone! I have a 29 gal planted aquarium with an assorted amount of community fish. I'm having a bit of trouble with the PH of the water. My readings as of a short time ago is GH 30 KH 120 PH 8.0 NITRITE 0 AND NITRATE 20. On the 2nd of this month I had done a test and the PH was 7.5 as well as the GH was 30. Why is it going up? I've been using Jungle correct PH for community tanks (tank buddies) and it's supposed to drop it to 7.0 but it doesn't seem to be working. What in my tank could be causing this spike? I should also notifiy you that I do not use my tap water because the water here is extremly hard, so instead I've oppted for the filtered water. I'm going to be picking up more water today and doing a water change. I've done it about 2 weeks ago but it didn't seem to work. Do you all have any ideas? Is there a better water softner out there?

Are you using an RO unit or just a standard tap water filter? Are you buying bottled water for your aquarium?
Also, have you added any decor such as limestone rocks that might have raised the pH?
I don't know about anyone else, but I personally wouldn't use bottle filtered water for my aquarium. An RO unit or a simple faucet filter will pay for itself in no time if you take that route over buying bottled water.

Well I buy gallons of filtered water. I tested it before I used it and it was good. I haven't added limestone ever. I only have one piece of petrified wood in the tank, it was put in before fish. The only thing I added recently was a marimo ball... could it be the snails causing the problem. There are trumpet snails in the tank. I've been slowly removing them by hand and there are less of them ... very hard problem to get rid of by the way!!
my Ph went from 6.8 to 8 after a massive water change , I used API Ph low and it dropped back to 6.8

I used API Ph low.
I used that for a couple of days... it works for like 9 minutes and then stops.
Use it, measure the pH and then come back like a couple of hrs later and you'll see it was back to where it was prior to addition of the chemical.
