I have 2 Pictus right now in my 29g, soon to be in a 150g. I got them both at the same time. One is dominant and constantly picks on the other, chasing him whenever he comes close and generally stressing him out. The dominant catfish eats well and has grown to 3 times the size of the little one. The little one's color is pale, and its missing half its whiskers on one side. I feel absolutely horrible for him, but I don't have an alternative until I get my big tank. I had been hoping he would make it until I get the big tank, then they could both have plenty of their "own" space, but, I see him now in the far corner, and the mere sight of the big catfish (only about 5 inches, but much bigger than the little one) sends him into a flurry of fright! I have no where to put him. I gave him his own driftwood to hide under some time ago, but the big catfish "patrols" the tank. Now he even chases my bichirs! My wife hates him and calls him an a$$hole... it's kinda funny. Any suggestions? I should get my big tank in about 3 weeks or so (hopefully) and will add them after a quick cycle (less than a week with the good media i have).

If ya had a few more it could even out the abuse.

Imo pictus cats should be one to a tank. Never heard very good things about them together with others of the same species.

Have you tried changing the decorations around?

I gave it some thought last night. I think I'm gonna remove one of the larger plastic plants and put a small "log" decoration. It will be clear on the other side of the tank away from a$$hole cat. Hopefully, the little guy will find it and have his own safe haven. I will go get it this week.
