This summer my pair spawned twice, first batch of eggs got eaten by them. it was first time that they ate the eggs and they were very aggressive toward each other this time, don't know why. I had to separate them for a day then they calmed down.
second time I moved the eggs so they survived. there were about 1000 of them! lack of time I didn't hatch brine shrimp like past year and just fed them brine shrimp powder, as a result just about +200 of them made it and survived the first month.
now they are near 1" long. here are some pictures.

And this is their older brother!
he is 16 months old now. he's got a very nice pattern and intense red color. his pattern is similar to his mother ( in my avatar ) but he got the red of the father.
previously I thought its a girl but from the breeding tube I'm almost sure that its a he! :shappy:

LOL My oh my. What a load of Oscars you have there. I've given my fry shrimp powder too. They seemed to eat it as well as they did the brine shrimp.

Thank you Ray, rich and Jordan. glad you like them.
I think these are the cutest fry between all cichlids! lol
Its interesting they have a cross on their forehead! some of them just have a vertical line but most have a full cross. bad it will disappear later!

lol It is too bad their markings change so much as they grow!
An oscar with those markings as an adult would look amazing.I really do like the cross.thumbs2:
It may just be that water! What is in it?:hmm3grin2orange:

Hey quick question. Why do non of the fry look like an oscar. Like none of the patterns remind me of an oscar. Is that always the case. I love them tho. Great shot. My convict fry just reached an inche and i know how u feel. SUCCESFUL (spelling)

Well I don't know why they change!
I think the black and white theme and big eyes make baby oscars cute.
most of my baby oscars ( I don't know about others ) will lose those wide white stripes when they get over 2-3" long. I mean their color ( both black and white ) lose its intensity. and when they get adult, they get red on the place of those white stripes.

Well I have to get rid of them eventually! I don't have enough room to raise even one of them! I will sell them. but I have not found any buyer yet this time. that is the bad part when you neither have the room to keep them nor someone to take them!
Time for that pond you always wanted!
I wish I could!
