Hi,
I am about to purchase a nice new tank. The one I am looking at comes with lighting and a bioflow filter system + heater. The specifics of the filter can be seen here

Can anyone tell me is this sort of set up adequate for oxygenation of the tank, or should I still have a separate airflow through the tank? I have only ever used under-gravel filter systems with airstones in a tank previously so this internal filter idea is quite novel to me - though looks great. Can't wait to get it all set up and cycling.....
The whole thing comes as a package so I am trusting that the filter size is correct for the tank volume etc - they do have different sized filters with different packages.
Many thanks

If stocked normally that should provide adequate aeration for the tank.

It depends on the size of the tank and what you plan on stocking it with!
Welcome to the Fabulous AC!:22:
How big a tank and how many gallons does the filter move every hour?
Most of us here double up on filtration.I have a 35 gallon with 70gals of filtration on it.
An air stone is just that,an air stone.Yes they do add add oxygen to the water but do nothing for filtration. They add a nice look to the right tank and its all preference.
An under gravel filter system needs reverse flow power heads and are really a pain in the butt because cleaning under them means teraing yourtank apart.

Wow - swift replies thank you!
The tank is 180l and the filter moves 600l per hour so that sounds about right from what you say.
I don't plan to do undergravel at all this time - that was a good few years back.
I am not sure exactly what fish I will stock with this time, just really want a tank back in my life they are so absorbing! Previously I have done the livebearers but thinking maybe some angel fish and then see what else will go well with this particular type from there. Looking for fewer but slightly larger fish than I used to have. I'm not getting my tank from the local store as the costs are much higher there than I can get elsewhere, but I have been in and talked through with my local store about cycling and all that and they seem to be pretty agreeable with things I have read on here, so good advice - I just forgot to ask about the oxygenation at the time! I will talk more with them when it comes to getting fish about what works well together.

When you have it all connected and set up, if you point the outward flow up toward the water surface, it should be enough to oxygenate the water. Juwel makes an air diffuser as well, but you probably don't need it. Which tank of theirs are you getting?

I was looking at the Juwel Vision 180.

If you can afford it and have the room, I'd opt for the bigger Vision 260 (I love my Vision 450 :1luvu:).

Sadly I don't have the room for a bigger tank - this is bigger than my last tank I had a few years ago though so I am happy.

As long as you are happy with your choice, that's what counts the most!
