hey guys,
ok so i just put some red eyed tetra into my tank (4 to be exact) and my gold gourami seems pissed... chasing them around the tank... will this pass and it's just a territory thing? or is it a problem?
he never did this with the other tetra i have... but now he's just kinda chasing anything that moves except for my otto
thanks

It may be a problem, it may not be. My gold chased my danios and cories for a week before accepting them as tankmates, and that was with her being added to their tank instead of the other way around.
Only way to know for certain is if he kills something.

Is your tank set up with caves and plants to block line of site for the tetra?
It will help to keep the gourami less stressed about more tank mates.

yes i have artificial structures which block the sight line as well as plants which probably don't block it as well but still have some effect

i have a gold that will kill anything i put in the tank with him. The only reason the snails that are in there aren't dead is; well, their shells. Nasty bugger. His M-O is to pound on everything in the tank, and then go do his own thing. The next morning is NOT a pretty sight. Changing decor does not help. Good luck, but be prepared to become a funeral director. But I have a blue 3 spot(which the gold is a color morph of) with a tank full of buddies. He's the tank boss, but he gets along great with 30+ other fish. This is why i call gouramis the psycho-fish

3-Spot Gouramis are pretty much just entirely unpredictable. The only way to know is if it kills something. Which is why some people claim they're, as terrapin24h said, "psycho-fish" while others claim they're the perfect community centerpiece.

To make matters worse, i have read that they can change as they age and become aggressive when once they were not. So, my blue that is just fine could-theoretically- wake up some day and decide he hates everybody, and that's that. I keep an eye one him but so far so good. I've had him over a year now and he's a good 4" long. His forehead is starting to change(you know how their looks change slightly as they age) so i think he's an adult now. They are a beautiful fish, but very complex too.

ok well the gold kept nipping the one red eyed but he seems to have relaxed but the red eyed's scales are all messed up on his tail where the gold was nipping him
