Hi
One of my green Tiger Barbs has changed colour to black. I have 2 other green Barbs and they now seem to pick on it and have nibbled his underside fins away. He/she is also pointing downwards and looks listless.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Thats a sign he is stressed. Tigers like be in groups of at least 6 in a tank no smaller than 20g, preferably larger since they are very active. How big is your tank?

It's 260 liters and Ive got 3 green tigers, 3 rosys and 6 golds. Also have 4 gouramis, 3 flying foxes, 6 silver tip tetras and a red tailed shark.

Cheers

This sometimes happens when there in a bad mood for some reason, or when they get old.

So should I leave him in the tank or isolate? Only had them around 4 months so don't think they are too old.

isn't that a little cramped? because of the 6 goldfish in there?

Sorry I meant gold barbs. 260 litres is roughly 70 gallons.

Add 3 or 4 new green barbs to your tank and see what happens.

i would definitly try to put more barbs in it...see what will happen, but if there is no changes, take out those poor fish and put it in a other tank...

sometimes there's bad blood i guess...:-(

A further development.

One of my gold barbs has a large white spot on its side. Its about 1cm diameter. No other spots on any fish.

The gouramis are now chewing at the black (should be green) tigers fins. Cannibals!!

OK. Put some more Barbs in as suggested. 3 Tigers and 3 more Green Tigers.

Should I take out the Green Tiger thats gone black? What about the Gold Barb with the white spot? He's also got red lips!!

i would give some alone time to the green tiger barb that turned black ...in a separate tank...give him some rest a little bit.

the gold barb... i dont know about the big white spot and the red lips but it doesnt sounds great to me... maybe somebody else will be able to help more with that.

Update

Both went to fish heaven today. I separated the Green Tiger last night and he was dead this morning. Also fished the Glod Barb out this afternoon. The white spot had turned into an open wound - looked very nasty.

I'll keep a close eye on the rest now. I'm worried there's some sort of disease in the tank.

Don't know how it could have got there. Everything has been fine up to now. I do seem to get a lot of brown algae but I don't think it's from overfeeding.

Thanks for all who tried to help. I'll let you know if anything else happens over the next day or so.
