Hi guys new poster and new fish tanks. I have 2 55 gallon tanks from Walmart Im just setting up . One will be for tropical and the other for goldfish. I want to do the initial cycle and was wondering if I can use gravel or water from my snapping turtle or painter turtles to start the process or do I have to use gravel from an established fish tank

thanks for the help

Hmmm, I wouldn't do it myself, only because I'd be afraid of any parasites or other bacteria that could be harmful to the fish. There is a great section of fishless cycling on this site, using ammonia. Of course, if you get too impatient you can spend the 30 bucks on biospira after adding ammonia for a couple days. It's expensive, but it does work overnight like it claims!

In total agreement with xoolooxuny. You may be transferring bacterias but what kind? I say forget it.
