Well after listening to my 11 year old bug me for months and months and months....

... and months... about getting a dragon I finely decided to let him. He had been picking up books and reading online about them for a while and he saved all the money for the tank, the dragon, and the heat lamp himself by doing extra chores. That actually impressed me... went to the store for a video game and left with two books on bearded dragons instead. That convinced me he was serious.
So we talked to my fish guy and he has had a ton of eggs and a bunch just hatched. Convenient huh...

So this is Ax... he (i think...) is about 2-3 months old and about 5" long (including tail). Gotta admit he's cool to watch.

He's young! Wow! Beautiful little guy. Your son should be proud of him and you should be proud of your son. :)

What a cutie! Congrats!

They seem to be prone to calcium deficiency (moreso than some other species) so make sure you've got him/her on plenty of supplements and the proper lighting.

I love beardies! They are probably the friendliest reptile one could own...IMO! Good luck with him/her!

They love their greens and super worms!

I bet your son loves him!!! Personally, I'm afraid of reptiles and would have a hard time with their menu BUT that guy of yours looks like a real character!!! Like he's mugging for the camera thumbs2:

When my family says "beardies", we mean bearded collies. My parents have two of them (my fur brothers) http://www.getsmile.com/emoticons/smileys-91853/aiw/smile.gif

I would love a beardie but my wife is not a reptile lover. He is beautiful and I think it is cool your son has worked for him. For his diet you could look into roaches. There are a certain type that cannot fly or climb and die off when it gets to cold. They breed easy and you can keep in a large tupperware bin. When my buddy gets back from Manila on Monday I'll ask him. He breeds his own for his beardies.

My brother just got a baby captive bred bearded dragon and he looks like your son's bearded dragon. Nice beardy!

Thanks everyone! thumbs2: My son has been all over this little guy. I have to admit he really knows his stuff too. I guess all that reading paid off. lol So he's thrilled he gets to teach me something.

He wants me to make him a custom enclosure and make a background like I did for my 80g. lol Looks like I might have a new project now... :hmm3grin2orange:

It's nice when the kids find something that they really love to learn about...and the upside is that you get to share the projects!!!thumbs2:

Honestly this is the cheapest pet that's ever come into the house. A couple bucks on meal worms, wax worm, crickets, and some veggies a week and that's it. They are pretty low maintenance too.

I'm starting to get hooked on the little bugger too. I'm sure once your hubby watches him for a while he'll get hooked too. lol

Just give him the puppy eyes... :hmm3grin2orange:

Actually talked to my fish guy and I'm grabbing up either a 50 breeder or 75 breeder (which ever becomes available first) for stupidly cheap money. It will cost me 1/2 of what it would to build something. But me and my son are working on plans for a pretty sweet background and cave system for him. I really want to the 75... oh the room I would have to get creative... lmao

it's my son's dragon... really... :hmm3grin2orange:

Yep, it's his Dragon!:hmm3grin2orange: When you feel the urge to overrule some idea that he may have for the enclosure, remember that!!!:hmm3grin2orange:
