View Full Version : Ampatent's 29 Gallon Redux

A few of you may remember that I previously had a thread dedicated to this aquarium. Well, I decided to make some very radical changes and would like to start fresh again.

Basic Info
29 Gallons
30"(L) x 12"(W) x 18"(T)

Here is a picture of what the aquarium looked like in late August...

I'll post a picture for the current appearance sometime this weekend when everything arrives and gets set up.

For those that are picture crazy, I am expecting a shipment of some stuff this afternoon so I'll see if I can't post some pictures of what's inside.

Did the first water test since the plants have been in and the readings are good.

Ammonia: 0 - .25 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 10 ppm

Here's a list of the species of plants in the aquarium:

-North American Frogbit
-Hygrophila Polysperma
-Water Pennywort
-Java Moss
-Cabomba Caroliniana "Green"
-Ludwigia Repens
-Windelov's Fern (Microsorum Pteropus)

I'll see how things look sometime this week and try to post an FTS.

In the mean time, here's an FTS immediately following the planting on Friday night.

I can't keep my hands out of this aquarium. After a disaster with the root tabs, (they leached up out of the sand because I didn't plant them deep enough the first time) I decided to go ahead and do the revised aquascaping that I had planned to do when the manzanita arrived.

I had an idea that involved creating an under-substrate hiding/viewing area (similar to those lizard terrariums at the zoo), but when I tried to use the driftwood for it the open end was quickly closed by sand.

So, I'll see if I can't pull it off with a piece of PVC pipe and hopefully, if the fish do use it, it won't become a serious deadspot.

The shipment of Red Cherry Shrimp arrived today, and I've already spotted 3 pregnant females.

Bumped up the Bloodfin Tetra stock in the 29 gallon to 7.

Does anyone know of a good way to get the Red Cherry Shrimp out of the QT once the time comes?

Managed to convince some of the Red Cherry Shrimp to switch over to the 29 Gallon.

Here's the best shot I could get of the berried female in the 29.

No new pictures, but I'm still waiting for my big piece of Manzanita to arrive so I can setup my final aquascape. Also working on getting the required instruments and parts for a DIY bottle CO2 system.

English country side is the aquascaping idea...
