Melanochromis Auratus

Does anyone know how many fry a female Auratus usually spits after her term. Ive seen and counted 4...they all have decent nooks and crannies... i will increase feeding rates to help keep the larger fish full...

Couple of dozen easy.

Brood size can vary and generally larger females can produce larger broods (3 dozen+). Inexperienced mothers may consume some of their eggs/fry while mouthbrooding until they gain experience (so they may have smaller broods). A small brood would be 15 or less fry.

you got your fish about same time i got mine. when they get bigger the broods will increase in number as well. good luck

Ive had some have 50 and some have 10, just depends on how big she is,how old she is, how stressed she is, and if she is in a tank with other fish the survival rate is not good for any.
