I'm not sure if this has ever been suggested/done before, so excuse my ignorance if it has.

I was just thinking that perhaps a forum topic could be made so that people could find local fish keepers in their state or city. The forum could be place under introduction or perhaps in beginner's corner. Then a thread could be made of each state and people could talk to people they may be able to meet. I know a few other sites do this and it is very helpful. For example NANFA does this and it really helps people figure out where to find certain species and it also helps them find people to go fish hunting with. On here it would help new people find experienced local fish keepers and could possibly help organize fish clubs for that area.

one thing ive seen in other forums is a Main topic of say "Regional Forums" then under that have forums of different regions..one example is a car forum i go to. have regions, then people who want a certain large city or part of a state in that region can be under those regions, as needed :

[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

Near the bottom of this page you can see the regions, as an exmaple :)

So all that matters are those of you who live in the states, hm? Little baby Canada gets gypped out again. Shucks.

Joking, joking.
It is a good idea, though. thumbs2:

You would want 50 threads for 50 States? And what about each of Canada's provinces and all the other countries?

You can do individual searchs on google for your own area: tropical fish, clubs, etc. Perhaps I'm not understanding this correctly.

We have territories too, just to add to the confusion.

I don't know how those of you in the states would seperate things up, but Canada's usually thrown into four categories. Atlantic, Eastern, Western... and everything else everybody always forgets about.

Maybe if there were a subsection, but not necessarily 50 state threads plus every country/providence. If an active member from a certain state or country starts one then cool, but if a state has no active members to start one then one need not be started.

I do know there are several active members from the San Antonio area, it would be cool to have a thread focusing on locally available fish/stores/clubs.

yah, as needed, they can be created :) You can just have the US split into regions like Canada has regions. Then include states(or cities, such as here in Las Vegas) under each of those region headings.

We could have main titles like USA, CANADA, AUSTRAILIA, and EUROPE (which could be broken down furthur) and then an extra for the other contries we have.
Then break them down into the regions like stated. New england, south east, south west, mid west, west coast. Or something like that... same with Canada and Austrailia.

Mabye the ac editor and the mods could make a new forum section for "the state forums"so we wouldn't have to make fifty sticky threads. And then their could be sub forums in the forum group, like how we do it with the cichlid forum, we have different sections to post different things related to different kinds of cichlids, we could probaly put a couple of countrys or something.

That's a good idea! But maybe the sub-forums could be by country and it could be left to members to start state/territory/province threads. Since we already have the ability to do a search within a thread, folks could search for a certain city.

Threads is possible to do. forum/subforums is not for practical reasons. Adding a lot of forums with little activity would slow the forum down too much.

anyhow, regions can be added as needed. For example in Southwest US, just an example since I live here, you can have Las Vegas, Southern California, AZ....as needed(asked for). if it's not requested for a city or state, dont add it :)

starting a thread with something like "anyone from..." would be effective... but I agree with william in that creating 50+ new forums that really aren't going to see much action would be a bit much.. state threads could be a bit useful however...
