Hi everyone out there, I am looking for some help.
I set up a 20 gallon tank about 4mths ago. it contained an algae eater from a previous tank, neon and rummynose tetras, a pair of sword tails and some shrimps.
We`had a hellish hot summer but I managed to keep the tank below 81 degrees most of the time and with no fish loss.
First the algae eater went off his food, and developed a redish colouration around his vent. About 4 days later he died and at that time his abdomen looked greyish and distended.
Then one of the tetras got a whitish lump on the side of its head which my petshop man diagnosed as ich and was treated apparently successfully with metronidazole.
And now my tetras are dropping off one by one. The most stricking thing is that they go off their food and develop a very hollow abdomen, stop swimming with the others and die a few days later.
So far the sword tails and shrimp seem OK.
The water seems to be fine as far as I can see from the test kit, temp 78-79
