So we just picked up a couple larger oscars that were at the store for very cheap (they were brought in by someone else for adoption). My wife has always wanted an oscar, so she was very excited. We got them home and put them into a holding tank until their big tank is done cycling, and had some questions.

First, there are 2. One is a big orange guy, the other is a bit smaller typical gray with orange. They are INSEPARABLE, and will ALWAYS stick together. No matter what, they will stay within 2 inches of each other. The bigger orange one seems to be the more dominant one.

The grey one seems to be fine; he has been eating well, swims normally, and is generally in a good "mood".

The bigger orange one is the one I am more concerned about. He has not been eating (sign of illness?), but he has been swimming normally, and seems to be acting okay otherwise. Recently he started moving some of the gravel around as well.

What do you guys think is the situation with this guy? Thanks in advance

Dave

Give them some time to settle in. I am sure he will start eating soon.

He is just getting used to the situation! Claiming his territory as well!
He should start to eat soon.Could be trust issues too!
Is there any other fish in the tank?
How big is the tank?

It is very common for Oscars to "sulk" when moved to a new tank...if the fish doesnt start behaving more normally within a week then its time to look for other sources of the strange behavior. I agree, telling us what your water parms especially your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels as well as tank size and filtration would be of great help to further assist you.:22:
