Okay...so I've cleaned the 2 Emperor 280s that came with my used 55g set-up...

...they were previously used for a SW tank. I'll be using them for my goldfish.

Should I change the biowheels? They've long since dried out, I'm not too worried about disease. I was more worried about the possible salt residue affecting colonization by FW nitrfying bacteria.

However...replacement biowheels cost a fortune I found out today!

Give them a good washing, and then wash again in dechlorinated water and you should be fine.

...thanks...I was hoping someone would say that...lol...

...I'm also trying to find 2 used light strips to put on the glass canopy...I gather the previous owner kept his halides...but now I need light!!! I can't believe a 22-24" strip costs $45+...and I need two of them!

just rinse em. salt is highly soluble. Try and get the lights from a discount warehouse. I remember i got a new light for my 33g a few years ago at a discount factory for 30$.

Oh, do it in hot water. It dissolves the salt 10x faster.
