Well I guess it happens to everyone at some point... our worst fears... a tank breaks.

My nice cat Sammie decided she was going to jump up on my coffee table in my living room and my nice son decided to squirt her with a water bottle and freak her out to get her off the table.
My house is trashed right now because of some construction and the g/f moving in at the same time. Boxes and crap are everywhere and it's very cluttered. Drives me mental... since my office became a girls bedroom all my office crap is in the dinning room where my big 3 tank stand is. (55 Angel tank, 10 gallon guppy and 10 gallon fry tank)

So the boy sprays the cat, the cat bolts hissing and burning rubber... right under my feet as I'm trying to stand up so I can simply push the cat off the table. I fall back into my chair and the chair rocks backwards and flips over with me in it. My head hits my camera's tripod (which is a oldschool metal Nikon stand) and it goes over and slams onto the plastic border along the top of the tank and spidering the glass of one of the 10 gallon tanks.

I swear to god it was like slow motion... I watched the glass spider and start spewing water everywhere. Then a small piece comes out and the whole front failed. Dumped 10 gallons almost instantly all over my box filled dinning room. 10 guppys and a bristlenose are flopping all over the floor...

I managed to get everyone picked up and tossed into a 2 gallon I had sitting around but it wasn't pretty. I got the floor covered in towels and tried to dry up some of the water. Lucky for me only a little soaked through to the basement. The stand caught a lot of it. I shot to the store and picked up a new 10 gallon whipped together in about 5 minutes and got the guppys back in.

I lost about four of the guppys and my BN in all the excitement... Not impressed about that. But I did save some and it wasn't the 55 Angel tank. So I'll take as a victory. But now I can say I am a true fishkeeper...

My son wont even look at the spray bottle.... lol :hmm3grin2orange:

Oh that sucks! At least it was only the 10g. I had my 29g spring a leak when I was away at class a couple of years ago. Came home to what sounded like a waterfall from the filter and about 10g of water on the floor. Not fun, I can totally sympathize.

Oh Dude, sounds like a scene from a Steve Martin movie...can't wait to see the video. :hmm3grin2orange:

Now, on a more serious note, glad it happened in your house and not mine.

That probably doesn't make you feel any better, does it? Shall I keep going?

Ummm...yeah..you didn't loose the 55! :14:

And Nylons, you do know how to tell a story!!

You do see the humor in this don't you? DON'T YOU?

I do feel really bad about the situation, honest, I do....but I laughed so much, it hurt! I pictured it in slow motion, and in my imagination, the expression on your son's face was priceless...........

but on an other note, i am sorry for your losses and hope all will be calmer for a while.

i do know how is it to be in a house in renovations... I AM in one and its cluttered and upsidedown too all the time ...depending about which room i am working on a the time, there is clothes in the kitchen, my bike is in my room,...and so on!

Thanks all! Glad you all got a good laugh... yes it's ok to laugh. lol.

Well I'll admit at the time there was no humor in it what so ever... I wish I could send that to Americas funniest videos. I'd win hands down. I can only imagine what the domino effect looked like. Then me laying on the floor trying to get up off the chair with water spraying everywhere... 3 people on the floor trying to pick up flipping guppys without hurting them...

The look on my sons face was priceless though. He was scared out of his mind thinking it was his fault but trying not to laugh at the same time.

The scene at the pet store wasn't much better... 2 wet adults and a wet kid buying a 10 gallon tank, me mumbling and grumbling... the g/f laughing... needless to say once everything was set back up there was a Captain and coke for me! lol

ya and the sad part is... that is one of the calmer nights in my house...
And people wonder why I'm bald... lol

Oh wow. At least be happy someone was home (even if it was you crashing into the tank) when it happened. Better than coming home to the mess and dead fish. At least you acted fast. Sorry about the losses. Remind you son it's not his fault! :( What a day!

Oh man. I am so sorry. I think since I am the clutz in the house this is a scene my wife has played over in her head. I bet she even has some kind of "the clutz fell into the tank emergency kit" somewhere. Sorry for laughing but you tell a great story. It's good that you weren't hurt either.

First... ROFL!!!!!

Now that I got that out of my system LOL. What a great story LOL.... ya its not funny when its going down at all, but after....hehe

I always use a squirt bittle on my cat. I use it when I come in from the garage (smoking) and he tries to slip past me. He's not allowed out of the house! That squirt water bottle is excellent! I used to swat him with my hand, but that's bad because I could injure the little fella. So its always a squirt with water when he's bad (and he KNOWS when he's bad!

Glad its all over now, but I did get a big chuckle out of how you told the story LOL
