I just made some changes to my tank and thought I'd share some pictures of the progress and share a little bit.

This was right after it was all cycled and I just had just added my platies. When I first got it I had just planned to make it a normal kind of boring with a couple plants and the pirate ship.

Then I started looking at too many pictures of Amano tanks and stuff and now I want a big time serious planted tank but obviously I'm not there yet. I can't really afford to get a bigger tank or anything so I'm just slowly adding little bits here and there.

This is how it looks now. I took out the pirate ship and put in some some mopani wood. I also added a black background and in real life it actually looks a lot nicer. Everything is much brighter and stands out a lot better.

I still would like to change the substrate to eco-complete or something and maybe take out that fake rock cave and replace it with something real. But all the fish really like going in the cave and I'm not sure what I could replace it with so they could still have somewhere to go hide and/or have their babies. It would be cool to have little hills with caves underneath but I don't know what to make them out of.

If anyone has any scaping suggestions or whatever I'm open to anything. There's some more pictures on my flickr, link in my signature.

Very pretty. I like the "normal" pirate ship look but I love the "planted" mopani look too!

I have never taken a picture that clear in my life! It doesn't even look like there's water in the tank. Nice job and nice tank.

Tank looks great. I like the wood much better. I agree with the Lady, that tank is clean and those are some excellent shots.

I like that rock you have in there.Just add some others to build a cave or look at DIY caves. They are easy.

I changed my substrate and added a couple more plants (java ferns and anubias) and rearranged some stuff.

Still pretty cloudy in this picture and that giant piece of hornwort just floating there isn't very cute. I don't know where to put it haha. I'll try and get a better one in the next few days.

I also put all the fry I had in their own tank now.

This was right after a water change so it's still looking kind of cloudy but I moved a couple plants around and planted that huge bunch of hornwort I didn't know what to do with. I added more rocks too.

I wish the cloudiness would go away but I obviously didn't rinse the fluorite nearly enough.

If it's the fluorite causing the cloudiness it might take a week; at least according to something I read about someone who didn't wash it at all.

Yours looks fine though, I imagine it will be clear within a day or two.

It's been over a week since I changed it to fluorite. I know I could have rinsed it for hours and hours and it would still have been dirty. I just couldn't justify wasting that much water to rinse it super well.

It's pretty cleared up now. I had a platy and an oto die though.

The hornwort grows like crazy. I'm pretty sure it's illegal here in California so no stores will take the clippings from me. Even though they sell it at petsmart. One of the Java ferns has two little plantlets growing off it, the other is slowly attaching itself to the wood. I also lost one of tall plants in the back when all the stems broke off from the bulb somehow.

And here's my fry tank. This is where my pirate ship went. This is just floating plants, anacharis and more hornwort. There's a couple pieces anchored down though. I found three tiny snails in there today. Pretty annoying.

I added 6 harlequin rasbora today. I'll post some pictures later once they've had some more time to settle in.

I thought there might be some problems with Lyoto the betta, but he just chased after them for a few minutes and hasn't bothered them since. He never flared or anything. Now everyones swimming together happily. The rasboras look really pretty the way they swim together.

Very nice natural looking tank! Looks like something you might see if you had a glass window into the bottom of a quiet river.

This is how it looks now. I had to remove the dwarf saggitaria because the oto's like to eat it and it was falling apart. You can't really see it but there's a stem of anacharis that bends from one side of the tank to the other.
