Will they get along? I am doing an albino community tank, hopefully with an albino angel, and want to throw in a red betta.

I think the angel would probably hurt the betta, but maybe others will have more experience w/ that particular combination than I do.

I don't think I'd mix any cichlid with a betta, unless it was a plakat variety. Betta are very slow swimmers and have those long, flowing fins just waiting to be nipped. The plakat wouldn't have the long flowing fins.

I think it could work. I see no reason why the two fish would tangle. As long as you have a retreat availalble for the betta it could be tried.

I would do a female betta if you were going to try it, but even at that I wouldn't want to try it personally. If you got an aggressive betta they my attack the fins of you angel or if you angel was a mean one you would have trouble there as well. Let others chime in, but personally I just think there's too much of a risk with personality problems

Get the angel a prescription for benzodiazepines and bet(t)a-blockers for the betta and they should be pretty calm :hmm3grin2orange:

Otherwise, as mentioned, I would be worried about their nipable fins.

I have had a betta with an angel and other fish. It all depends on the temperment. My betta was the chill stoner type. He just didnt care. But if your betta is mean there may be problems. Likewise for the angel. You could try it, if things happen switch em out. Get a 5-10g for the betta plant it and bam a nice betta tank.

I have tired Bettas and Angels. Never worked. Not even female Bettas.

Found the angle just did not care for them.

please see here....http://www.tropicalfishandaquariums.com/Compatibility/

but who knows? sometimes it depends on the fish personality and there are so many variables in life:ssmile:

This may be way out in left field, but it's something I think I observed with one of our bettas (just one, so not a science) and a friend of mine had thought the same thing. I have had good luck keeping bettas w/ platies, cories & glowlights, except for a red colored one -- which was the experience of my friend as well. I don't know that the red ones are more agressive but it had crossed my mind that this may be the case. So, for what it's worth... if it doesn't work w/ a red one like you'd like, maybe it would work w/ a different color. (But I'd still be leary to try those two types of fish based on what I've read about Angels.)

I gotta ask..why do you want a red betta in an albino community tank. Doesn't that defeat the concept of an albino community tank?

Kinda, but not really. I think the red will accentuate the red in the albinos, and think the single, colored fish against the others will look sharp.

I got why you wanted that color to bring out the pinkish tones in the albinos thumbs2:

I think i'd pass on this combo. Anabantoids in general(gourami, beta, etc) tend to be very protective of the upper water area, which is where angles(at least the ones i've seen) tend to swim. Maybe, *maybe* if the angel was in the tank BEFORE the beta and you broke up the sight lines with plants and stuff, you might be able to get away with it, but it would be a crapshoot.

Have a second home ready for the beta

I wouldn't mix them either because I think those betta fins would take a beating if not the whole fish. Betta's do so well living in their own digs that I can't see mixing them with much of anything.

i think it could work if your betta & angel live together when they was still young . it work in my tanks, 2 angel & a betta ... they are so cute .:19:

For sure, we all like different things (that's what makes the world go around!) BUT I got it quickly what Jaycee was thinking because I have a reddish-pink male betta and he looks sooo nice in a tank with some albino cories and these pink-black platies we've got thumbs2:

Hmm, if I didn't see it myself Jil I wouldn't have thought much of the red bettas being more aggressive theory, but now that you mention it, I've had 4 bettas now in the community tank, and the only one I had to remove for sheer orneryness was a red crowntail. I currently have a betta and angel together, and after a wee faceoff in tank centre they now ignore each other. Both are mild mannered fish tho for their species. So I would try it, but be prepared to move the betta out if things get nasty. Always have a plan "b"...

I just added juvenile angel fish where there is already a mature male betta and a female. There are plants, caves, and logs for hiding and when I added the new fish I moved the decor around. This way there isn't much of a fight for territory, not to mention there is still some unclaimed territory in the tank. So far everything has been okay. I also do believe that it has a lot to do with personality. I keep my bettas in a community tank and I had one that I could not. He was blue. so just observe and see if they get along.
