Can someone tell me if it is possible to happily / safely keep these three kinds of fish together. I know the electric yellow labs and yellow tailed acei are good together, but my husband really (really!) likes the blood / red parrots. I've read up on them and understand the controversy, but if it is within the realm of reason for us to add these fish (will be a 75g at that time), then I would like to do so. I like them myself in terms of what I've read of their personalities but mostly, I would like my husband to have them since he has said he'd like to.

Alternatively, if they are not okay with the cichlids we currently have (and I love, H likes), is a 50 gallon (36" x 18" x 18") okay for a trio of them? With maybe some other kind of compatible fish for added interest. And if not, then surely a 75g for the parrots and ??? is okay?

Thank you. I wasn't sure exactly where to post this question but think the existing combo of cichlids is in this group, so maybe you all here will know.

PS I think you will anyway, based on what I've seen in the past, but if mixing what we have with the parrots is not good, please tell why. Then H and I can look together and figure do we go bigger for the gold fish and 50 for the parrots (and me give up the flowerhorn in favor of the arrangement -- I love the flowerhorns for the personality I see in the videos, but on the other hand, I have really close bonds with my dogs and maybe will continue to enjoy the fish mostly as a spectator and caretaker, vs. friend -- I had planned the 2nd 75g for the flowerhorn and the 50 for the goldies, but am obviously rethinking).

It would not be a good idea to mix the blood parrots with the africans. Different water parameter preferences, different body language, and different dietary needs. The blood parrots will need a higher protein diet than the mbuna.

The blood parrots would be fine in a 50g tank (you could have a couple) and you could add some schooling fish tank mates.

Thank you!

I had figured this might be the case and was hoping you'd chime in.

You've been giving me a lot of advice, and I really appreciate it!!!

Years ago (15?) when we had fish, I think we'd have stayed in them forever if there was access to good information and the ability to ask questions of people who have been in it longer. I love that there's a lot to learn, and many ways to learn it. Thanks!

I can't speak to the blood parrot but I have labs and Aceis together and they seem to get along just fine.
