As you know I just setup my 27g tank on Thursday. The darn thing cracked! I hadn't been using it for a fish tank for the last year, and I had Lizards in it for a while, but it's not that old! Thank Goodness I was checking the e-mail at the time! All my fish are in the 2.5g. I have 2 10g's that I am going to have spend the rest of the day setting up. I hope I don't get in sh*t from the Landlord. We have 27g of water on the floor. I have used every towel in the house and tried to get up as much as possible. I have no idea how I am going to clean the glass up. Grrrr.

I have never had a side break. I have had 2 break the bottoms. I am working on building a glassless bottom tank. My 24 gallon tank cracked it's bottom and I had to patch it...so far so good. Years ago I had a 45 gallon crack a bottom and I lost a matinge pair of convicts and about 250 fry.
...that's a lot of water! Wet-dry vac! They come in very handy!...

Oh my gawd. What a mess. It must have had a hairline crack that was undetected. Liz, I'm so sorry for your mess. Maybe you can run and get a carpet shampoo and suck that excess water up. dang girl

ouch... does that suck. I cannot fathom the mess it would make. Good luck cleaning it up, and getting your fish resettled.

Im not sure about your case, but i called my insurance company prior to setting up my first tank cuz i was nervous as hell about that happening! Anyhow, they told me i was covered in the event of aquarium breakage and all the water damage that would incur to my basement drywall as well.
Sad to hear regardless........

I think the Katrina hurricane victims thought they were covered to. The jerks would call this a flood and not pay anyway.

Had me going, till I got to the post where you let everyone off the hook.
That is one of my biggest fears, my new tank is laminated glass, so though it can still crack, the guy who built it assured me the vinyl between the sheets would hold it together.

Unfortunately, the main concerns with rimless (glass) tanks is the silicone seams not holding. Actually breaking the glass is pretty dang hard unless you really give it a good pop.

I fixed my basement humidity woes. I found a new de-humidifier for 20$.

I overflowed the sump on my Saltwater last week. I just grabbed all my laundry an threw it on the water. Had to wash a bunch of clothes, but it's better than re-doing a whole room's flooring. Just a suggestion.

When my 20g overflowed because i forgot the huge driftwood chunk takes space, i just grabbed any dam absorbent i could find, even my own shirt.
