I was planning for my 150g to be planted with black sand flourite and a killer lighting system... now, I had to replace tie-rod's and brakes on my car... so it looks like standard lighting, gravel and artificial.... :scry:

I can still plant later on in the gravel right?

Yes! you can always do the plants later. Besides, the plants will probably do better in a "seasoned" tank anyway! There's also no reason ya can't change out your substrate latere on if you choose!

Car problems suck......but ya gotta have the O'l car!

How about waiting on setting up the tank?

If i were you, I would at least just put the sand down, that way you don't regret it later and end up scooping out 150 lbs of Gravel.... Fake plants and lighting for the time being, and then upgrade later as the money comes in.

Go back and search for my first posts from here. Was close to 2 months from the time I purchased my tank, to the time I had it set-up

So yes mith, I have. :P It's hard but it all works out better.

Well, I'm gonna have to wait another month or so before I get this done it seems. Things just seem to be piling up on me. I will be moving next week and leaving the fish in the 29g for now. They are still small and love it in there anyway, they can hold off. Tough looking forward to a specific timetable and having it crushed.

LOL....man, I remember cycling my tank (I wonder if Lady Hobbs remembers ROFL) and it was a living HELL waiting for it to cycle. I would quite often sit there staring at an empty tank dreaming of the day that I could add fish LOL.

It sure beats a bare bottom tank!lol I have never been good at the waiting game either!:14:
Is the sand much different in price to the gravel?
I know the lighting part is expensive.
I also know how sudden car problems are like!I just had all the bearings, pinion and ring gear replaced in my vans rear end.Basically a complete rebuild!
Timing couldn't have been worse.Ka ching!!!!!!!!!

All of my tanks that are planted have gravel. Now I am only doing low light plants and maybe that is why it seems to work. I know that all my plants are growing and I like the look of my tanks so that is where I would go. Do what you can when you can and with what makes you happy.

I'm sure your car would have ran fine without breaks for awhile... This is aquariums we're talking about, learn to prioritize :ssmile:

You can get sand and good lights for less then $100

Go to home depot, get some pool filter sand (50 lbs) for about $8.

Then go to lighting, get two GE shop lights, and then lights. The GE lights put out about 80 watts each and they cost about $20 for the fixture and lights. Can't beat it lol

I'll most likely go the black sand route in early Nov. I have time to come up with another plan. The good thing is, we got the house with the full tax credit, and I promised my wife a dog if I can get the tank (evil grin). So, we should be on track come November. thumbs2:
