I was just given a tank that I beleive is a twenty gal. Its 24"wide x 15tall x 12 1/2" deep.
It came with everything ut a lid.It also has a pleco thats 6" long at the moment, yellow with black spots.I'll post pics soon.
The tank had a nasty brown colored water that has not been cleaned in years.I drip acclimated the fish for about 5hrs last night.I think its going to fine.

Wow. Are you keeping the pleco or re-homing? How did you find the free tank or did someone hunt you down with it? It literally hasn't been cleaned in years?!?

It really hasn't! lol
The pleco is the only surviving fish.
Its belonged to my kids freinds mom.lol
She drained the tank down to 2" of water and dropped it off with all the hardware in dripping wet bags!I was shocked to see such a nice looking fish in there.thumbs2:

Plecos are hardy and should acclimate fine. Sounds like a sailfin pleco maybe? They're light with dark spots when they are small. Good luck with it NG!

I pictured a gold nugget pleco when I read that. I'd be very jealous if that is what you lucked into as I've been wanting one. I just don't have the tank. They get a hair too big for a 29 and my 75 has a common sailfin that will outgrow even the 75. When I finally get my appropriate size tank for the pleco as he grows, than a gold nugget (or maybe even 2) will go in the 75.

I will post some pics tonight. Its not a sailfin.I already have one of those and this ones dorsal fin is way smaller. Its tail opens to a "V" shape and the sail fins tail is larger and straight when open.

Nice catch there NG! I too like Heather wish someone would drop one off!! We have a friend that bought a 55 gallon a few weeks ago only to notice a small scratch in the bottom. She gave it to someone as a reptile tank because she didn't think it would be any good!! I would have drove to get it. Would have take me a day - About 15 hours there and back!! But only gas would have been cheap in my little 4 cyl. Of course she bought another and may not like it either - I am waiting on this one...

Why are there no pics! LOL....why aren't there strict rules abou posting new stuff without including pics!

I WILL be speaking with management on this matter.

COME BACK MITH!! MITH COME BACK!!! LOL

Don't have to ask ME twice! I'm at work and my partner's driving! I just hope my sergeant never sees us on a traffic stop while I'm standing around posting messages here on the board! "What's that partner? He has a gun?" "Brb fish board, I gotta do something".....LOL.

Anyway, we got our picture! Very nice looking little fish there! Do those fish eat more algae than ottos?

HeatherB

Nice fish! He looks really cool...almost like, 'scaley' if thats the right word. The way his scales are make him look almost, like, a snake or something.

Mith- PLEASE turn off the phone and do some work...if this is what our protection agencies are coming to...then I really will have to move to Canada! LOL JK!

I have had a couple plecos, all common plecos except 2 BN I had. (All gotton via poor advice at LPS. They do a pretty good job on algae, cannot say if they are better than ottos or not, but I really like them. They are some interesting fish! The one I have now is just young, but prefers to eat in the daylight and hides away when it is lights off time.

Unsurprisingly (considering the condition of the tank, etc.) that's a stressed-out common pleco. Give the critter some time to settle in and it'll likely darken up a bit.

Northernguy
09-17-2009, 05:41 PM
It has begun to darken up.
Too bad! lol I liked the bright yellow I saw when it entered the tank.
