So I wake up this morning and go to feed my fish, as per my normal morning ritual. What do I see?

My Golden Wonder Killifish has one of my Glowlight Tetras hanging half out of his mouth! All I see is the head of the Glowlight and my Killie is trying to quickly swallow it seemingly to get the job done before I catch him.

What's worse is that the Glowlight is still alive, gasping for breath and trying to wiggle out of his predicament. :ssuprised:

I startle the Killie enough to spit the poor tetra out, but unfortunatly there is no tail or back half to the unfortunate victim. I put him out of his misery as quickly as I could.

The water perameters are perfect and there are no other signs of stress in the tank, other than my Glowlights and Rasboras giving the Killie a bit more space. :ssmile: I can only assume that the Glowlight was in a weakened state or close to death because the Killie has NEVER bothered anyone in the tank before, and this was WAY to big of a meal under normal circumstances. Other than length, the Glowlight was physically as big as the murderous Killifish.

The Killie definately lived up to his name this morning.:hmm3grin2orange:

He was hungry!
Sorry to hear it! Fish do eat fish.
I'll never forget when I caught a pike with the head of a bigger pike swallowed whole. It was truly a bizzare site.

Poor little tetra! But yes, if it fits into his mouth, the killifish will eat it. Pretty much goes for most fish.

It was a crazy sight to see - and sad to say a bit comical at the same time.

I may move the Killie to my larger tank as all the fish in there are passive, but quite a bit larger than him.

He may have just caught one napping. They are usually plenty fast enough to stay out of his way.

Sorry about the loss. Golden wonders have huge mouths! I lost several male guppies and a dwarf frog before I realized what these things were capable of. They are a blast to watch eat though.
