Underwater earthworms?

Found a bunch of these in a filter. Are they earthworms or what? (Detailed description at http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/aquariumforum/showpost.php?p=603642&postcount=9)

Thats weird! Did you put them in your tank?
How many were in the filter?
I wasn't aware they live under water! They never do on my hook!lol

The fish will go nuts on it if given the chance.They don't last .005 seconds in my tanks!:hmm3grin2orange:

earthworms cannot live underwater, most likely a tubifex worm
Have you ever fed live blackworms?

I had earthworms living in my filter media for months.I havnt seen any the last 2 times I cleaned the filters but for the first 4 months my filters were loaded with them.Some of them were tubiflex some were midge worms but most were actual 3-4" worms.

I have no idea how they got in.
Ideas?
- Climbed up the tall overhanging sides of the plastic tub
- Climbed up plants hanging off the side
- Dropped by bird, part or whole (they can regenerate from severed pieces right?)
- Eggs in bird poop??

There were about 10 visible, I didn't count. There could have been more completely hidden within the filter media. They were different sizes. The biggest one I saw was maybe around 5 inches long.

Yeah the guppies would be all :18: and crazily mob any exposed worm-flesh.


Have you ever fed live blackworms?
No. Only brine shrimp.

looks too big to be tubifex, reminds my of red worms from the bait shop.. dont know if they can live underwater either tho.

There always in my tank, I think at night the warms crawl in the wet moist ground and end up drowning in the pond... Its the only thing i can come up with, but my koi seem to enjoy them
