Ramshorn to be exact, and possibly 1 pond snail. Was hoping for some malaysian trumpets but no soup for me :( Just noticed them while clipping the plants. Great, another factor - possible plant eating snails

Do snails eat live plants?

Pond snails - often
Ramshorn - on occasion
Apple snails - often
Malaysian trumpt - almost never

Live, healthy plants of course. Most all eat dead/dying plant leaves.

I was on the az gardens website and they wont sell certain snails anymore bc of some government crap i dont know about, they said you need a permit to buy them, and ramshorn was one of them!!

If I knew how to ship them I could send ya about a dozen MTS snails! I can't feed them to my bigger puffers, they will break the teeth, the clown loaches will suck 'em dry so to speak, but I just had about 20 babies born, yesterday was the first day I could see them.

Thanks for the offer Kimmers! I will keep that in mind. Currently a little too preoccupied to deal with the tank issues with the second wave of midterms coming...lol

Snails can be a pain. I remember when my 20 gallon was completely taken over with 100s of them. It was out of control.

My situation has gone from completely out of control, to almost under control in about 3 weeks time. All the egg-laying snails are almost gone, i got 2 more khulis to make the total 3 and they eat a lot of them, and I've been vacuuming a lot of them out. They wont eat the MTS tho, but i don't mind, ill just get the ones off the glass and leave the ones in the substrate, and once and awhile drop a chunk of cucumber in and clean it off periodically. I just have to keep with it, I guess it all comes with the learning process of being a new aquarist!

I'm already overstocked in my tank, so my only solution would be one of those copper containing ich meds I think....heh

Be cautious when you see MTS snails climbing up the glass during the daytime, or if you see a group of them "making a run" for the top, these guys will run for the top when there is a problem in the water. They usually IME can sense an ammonia spike long before your water test reads the ammonia.

Exactly what i noticed! when i had freshwater fish in my 20g long, one time all my snails were hanging at the waterline, and one week later i got a mysterious ammonia spike.

Yeah, I read about that. Fortunately for me, ammonia spikes are no longer an issue in my tank :)

The snails seem to be cleaning up a bit of the algae and not touching the plants yet. We shall see.....
