We just got some electric yellow labs and yellow tailed acei yesterday. They are about 1.5" long and, for now, in a 29 gallon tank (will move to a bigger tank shortly).

Is an air pump with a curtain or a disk good for them? We have these in our goldfish tanks and one of the tropicals and like them, but not sure if they'd be okay or beneficial for these cichlids.

Thanks for your advice!

Does the surface water of your tank move? Do you have a filter that creates a sort of waterfall (the Aquaclear ones do)? If it does, then you should be fine without an air pump :)
The bubbles of the air pump are not actually what oxygenates the water. Instead, it is the surface disruption the bubbles create when they float to the top...

We have a Whisper internal filter because this aquarium needed to be flush to the wall. There is very little disruption of the surface from that filter, more just like a current.

Should we set up an airpump in this case? I love them (for how they look) but didn't know if the cichlids needed more still water or what.

Thank you!

In your case, an air pump would benefit the fish.
