Hello everybody ...

yeah i am asking myslef a lot of questions -i do know that-
I talk a lot about my fishes with random peoples or just with my man, who is not that into it like i am ...i like to talk about it, its fun, its advertising and i get to learn about what i like.

Its why i came on here, to be able to ask questions and talk about fishes as long as i want to ... with people form all over the world who share the same hobby.:ssmile:

i have to say ...its pret-ty cool to be able to read and re- read everthing about my new hobby this year. so, since i am on the subject, thanks for all of you who are members and all of you who are taking care of the web site!

So............ asking myslef millions of questions as usual, standing like a fish(mouth open and still eyes) in front my inwall tank, i was wondering... :
am i the only who is being attached to her cycling fishes?

i started up my tank in march buying a group of 6 Barbs, because people told me that they were easy to take care of and that they were hardy...
When i bought the little fellas i was thinking to myself that i will be bringing them back to the store after about 6 weeks,(since its what they are offering me ) when the hard time of the tank will be passed and when the tank will be all sets up...

BUT,and then i got super curious about each of my fish behavior and , yeah i got to like them so much that i decided to have a BARBS tank. They are so active !

I like other fish for sure... but i am feeling funny about bringing back all of my fishes. i have 25 of them now and ...so as you can see, bringing them back its not even an option anymore!
So, i guess i will have to start up an other tank if i want to have other kind of fish.

Am i the only one in this situation...???

i am guessing about all of your answer guys, that some of your answer will be : << oh yeah its exactly why i got an other tank>>

Thanks for sharring everybody !:goldfish:

Well...I wouldn't use 'cycling fishes' to begin with. My philosophy is that you keep and care for whatever type of fish you get. No fish is disposable.

My cycling was with liquid ammonia, so I can't say I'm very attached to it :hmm3grin2orange:

I do get attached to my fish, but not to the point where I won't rehome them if necessary (happened a lot with my mbuna trying to find the right combo). I find I get much more attached to my centerpiece fish (cichlids) than to schooling fish. Only the unique fish get names.

I agree 100% with Rue. I cycled my first tank with fish - and I still have all of them! I've never heard of "cycling fish" either. I think a lot of folks around here cycle withOUT fish, but those who do cycle with fish keep those fish once the tank is cycled.

Chazbot- i just love your signature !

before i got into that hobby i didnt even know i would of been able to cycle my tank without any fish...i would of definitly use that option for sure.

i guess i was predestined to be a barbs lover then... and to have that great tank of mine just the way is it now.:1luvu:

i will definitlty have an other tank, in a other room of the house soon..but then i will have to CHOOSE my next kind of fish ... well, better start now !:ssmile:

The first tank I set up a bit over a year ago when I got back into the hobby I got some used filter medium, and some rosy red minnows to keep the cycle alive till I could get the cichlids I wanted. After about two weeks of having them I started noticing the rosy red minnows werent the retardedly boring throw away feeder fish I thought of them as at first. I had kind of thought, oh well once I get some cichlids they're either gonna be food or they better hope they're really fast. i did actually get attached to them and figured oh what the heck, it's a good enough excuse to start another tank up, so I did. Unfortunately only one of them is left now due to them being really good jumpers, and a heat wave that caused power outages.

So i don't actually cycle with fish per se, but i did get attached to my little rosy reds I used to keep the tank running.

And Rue, your right "No fish is disposable." but it took me really getting back into the hobby to realize that. I used to feed my cichlids and redbellies almost exclusively with feeders when I was younger(I know now better and rarely if ever feed with feeders), so i got kind of desensetized and had the wrong attitude about it, still goldfish really don't interest me really probably because of this, but now I am not so cavalier about taking the life of an animal as I was when I was young and immature.

Thanks!

I didn't know anything about fishless cycling either! Happily, I found AC and discovered there was a LOT about fishkeeping that I didn't know!

I don't have any barbs, but people I know who have them just love them. Enjoy!!

And of course, getting a new tank is NEVER a bad thing. :hmm3grin2orange:

when i got my tank i didnt get fish for cycling but i did get fish just becasue i didnt know what i wanted i just knew that i wanted fish and i got the black skirt tetras and glo lights for free. now i have my one angel that i am keeping 6 blackskirt tetras which i am giving back to the lfs which i feel bad about knowing someone will not care for them as i have and 9 glo lights that i beleve my little nefew is going to take and hopefully care for them as i have but yes after this i feel you should not get fish unless you know for sure they are the ones you want.
