I just read on a tropical fish site that angels are needed to be kept in group of 4s. I have always thought angelfish are solo fish, meaning showcase fish where u can just have them by em self.. any thoughts?

Keeping them as singles is the happiest way for everyone.Unless you want to breed them and eal with the aggression.I have kept mine as a single for over 3 yrs now.He is fat and happy.

Technically angelfish, like discus can school together. Unfortunately not many people have a tank big enough to accommodate a 'school' of angelfish in a proper setting that isn't crowded. As a result angelfish are typically kept as 1 or 2 fish in a 30-55G tank.

In most tanks - solo angels or breeding pairs is the best solution.

If you have a large enough tank, you can have multiple angels but they will need their own space and are very territorial and will tear each other to pieces in too small of a tank
