For the last 6 or 7 days I've been treating one of the female betta's in a tank of her own with a heater, sponge filter and melafix. I noticed that one of her pectoral (sp..I know) fins were missing and in it's place was a red wound.
She eats normally and understandably she's quite miserable on her own but, her wound will not heal. It's still raw looking. Looks like something bit a chunk out of her. It does not seem to be worse but still... Is there anything else I can do for her? Can I put her back in with her "sisters"?
Thanks in advance!

Ouch. Granted, I don't have a pectoral fin to be ripped out, but I can imagine. o.o You could always try it and just remove her again if you see her getting bullied. How big is her hospital tank? If she's miserable on her own you could temporarily move one of the nicer ones in with her. And if I've been no help at all, at least.... BUMP.

If she's in her own tank and the wound isn't getting any better you should check for snails. Bettas tend to hang on leaves or other objects when they sleep. Snails in the tank can then climb onto the fish and make the wound worse.
Hitting the tank with a specific anti-fungal/anti-bacterial med that is stronger than mela/Primafix might be worth trying as well.

Wouldn't come out of her cave for chow this morning and upon returning from work, she's dead, on her lazy leaf at the surface. I just don't get it. The wound was a little smaller but, I guess I just didn't do enough for her. She swam fine, ate anything I put in the tank, was interested in what I was doing (the tank is on my pc desk)....I did 30% pwc/vac of the bare bottom every 6 days.
What a bummer. :scry:

Sorry to hear that. Sometimes it just can't be helped, but we shouldn't blame ourselves for it. :ssad:
