I put 4 in my tank several weeks ago but all I ever see now is one of them. They are good hiders but I wonder if the others lived. Great little fish for sure and fun to watch.

Otos really need real plants to thrive.

In addition to eating algae, they'll eat veggies, like zucchini, green beans, and broccoli. Just hang the vegetable with a veggie clip.

yep, I agree with mychambers. You could also put some river rocks in a tupperware container either outside or near a window. Sprinkle some fish food in in and soon you'll have some algae on the rocks that you can feed to the otos as well. Make sure if it's veggies or rocks that you put them in the same corner each time you set them in so the little guys know where to get their food. I love my otos and they make a great cleaning crew in my planted tanks :)

I have plenty of real ,thriving, plants in my tank , in background and sides , plus rocks and a piece of wood, they are really cleaning up the leaves , never been so green , and also tackling some brown algae on the back of the aquarium.
I have read they are shy and lazy , actually the swim briskly at any time and don't show any sign of shyness.
I have given them some cucumber + sinking algae pills ( but other fishes eat them as well and faster ).
thank u forall your advise, you are very nice:ssmile:

Hi, Neon. I also like otos. Really wanted a pleco but I don't have the room. Thankfully I researched that first or I would have a huge fish in a little tank. I have three otos right now. I've read, and have found, that at the beginning they are hard to keep. apparently when they are shipped, they are starved and stressed and alot of them don't survive the first month. But if you have them longer than that, you should be ok. My first two lived a bit longer than a month and then they died. Not sure why. Bought four more and so far have lost one, but the others seem pretty healthy. I feed mine Hikari algae wafers a couple of times a week in addition to the algae they eat on the glass. Also put some Seaweed Salad in the tank once in a while but they don't seem to like that.
