It goes without saying that you should put your aquariums where you really want them before adding water and fish. I just didn't figure we'd get so hooked and want more and bigger aquariums almost right away........
SO, today my husband, H, and I bought a 30 gallon aquarium and equipment which will eventually house German Blue Rams as the main fish. We also got another 20 gallon aquarium so we can "split" the fancy goldfish. I know eventually they may need a bigger tank but I do 2x week water changes and now each tank will have 2 fancy goldies and some danios, which I think is probably okay given the frequent changes and filtration.
The above doesn't sound like too much work except that an Eclipse 12 was where the 30 gallon goes and an Eclipse 6 was where the new 20 gallon goes. And the shelves where the Eclipse systems were to go had a bunch of books (bookcases). We started around 6pm and just finished moving the eclipse systems and their fish and setting up the 20 a few minutes ago around 10pm. H did by far most of the work but I sure am tired even so!!!
We haven't started the 30 yet because there was a specific filter I want for it and that won't come in until later this week. But, that should be more fun than this evening's projects. I love setting up the tanks (and so does H), but not so much relocating existing tanks.
Phew, though... feels good to have accomplished something thumbs2:

I remember my first tank, a ten gallon. I wanted to move it but realized a gallon of water weighs like 10 lbs... So I didn't go through with it. Applauds to you though :19: ! I agree... I LOVE setting up new tanks :D Good luck with the GBR.

We bought a new house & I only had 3 days to move my tanks. (2) 6x2x2ft, (1) 4x2x2ft, (2) 4x1.5x1.5ft, (2) 3x1.5x1.5ft & about fifteen other tanks smaller than that for live food, breeding etc. I had to restump a section of the house to support the weight of the tanks to!!
Three days no sleep at all & a huge amount of redbull. By the time I was finally finished I felt like crawling into my grave!!
Only lost two fish through the entire re-establishment so I guess it was worth it. I think it was a damn good effort for three days work with only my fourteen yr old for help.

Oh, yeah! Water is heavy heavy to lug!!! I know exactly how heavy from when I've had to lug it to horses when we've had hoses freeze. A real pain in the butt.
We drained probably 3/4 of the water out of each of the Eclipse systems (which are small anyway). Hopefully the fish in them will come through okay.
And, Oscar, I don't even want to think of moving your smallest big tank!!! That is quite an accomplishment to have moved them all and VERY impressive that you only lost two. You did a great job to be sure!!!

I agree with you that moving tanks, re-arranging, and setting up new tanks, feel good! Congrats on the new tank for GBRs! I'm jealous! I really want some.
I can't even begin to think about what it would be like to move my 125g Jebo tank! I was the only person there to place the tank on top of the stand! I managed to do it but I nearly died!!!!! If it sprung a leak or I had to move, I just don't know what I'd do!
Jill, I hope your hubby helped you do all this LOL! And if you only lost 2 fish, that ain't bad! Hope the rest of your fishies acclimate to their "new location".....and of course we'l be expecting some photos right? Hehe

I've probably moved my tanks 10 times. Moved my 55 from living room to bedroom. Then to a different spot in the bedroom. Then back to the living room. Then decided I should have put it 2 ft from where I put it after moving it back. Aother move. sheesh! The other 55 was moved as many times probably and the same thing when I had the 29 gallon and the 10.
Same thing with my desk and computer. I think that's worse than moving the tanks.

How on earth did you manage to pick up a 125gal on your own? That's what a 5x2x2? That's about 200lbs of glass? You would have to have arms 5ft long just to get a grip on it by yourself!!

I remember dragging the tank stand for my 70 up the stairs. Its wayy overbuilt (4x4s) and I almost ended up with a hernia and slipped disk.
