I am awaiting delivery of a 75g tank. I'm upgrading my Macaw cichlid to this tank as everyone has said they need at least 75g and I've found a great craigslist deal on the tank/stand/glass canopy/lights. So, in the 75g I'll have my nicaraguan cichlid, plan on getting him a female, the rosy barbs, the pictus, and the gourami.
What I'm not sure about is what to do with my 55g. I really don't have the room for both the 55g and 75g, unless I sell my kitchen table/chairs. So selling it is one option. I have perfect water for african cichlids so some other options I'm considering are 1. mbuna, 2. peacocks, 3. tanganyikans, 4. victorians, 5. some sort of smaller dwarf ca cichlid/community tank, 6. sell the 55g.
So what would you guys do?
You can pick multiple options since there are many awesome ones up there.

i voted for tangs and victorians and ill give my reasons why soon. but i believe you should have an option for selling the dining room table lmao
ok i chose tangs because they have tons of personality and with a 55 you could have a few different species of cichlids in it ei. an open area for shellies, then maybe some kind of rock structure near the middle for a rock dwelling species, and then maybe an open sand area on the other side of the tank for a sand sifting species
and i voted victorians because they have amazing color and not everyone has them

I think that either Smaller CA cichlid/community or Victorians would be awesome choices!
Congrats on the tank!

I can't answer the poll because one of your options is not "give it to Cristoff":l24:

Great tank Labby!
Keep the 55 for now until you get the 75 just as you want it. There will come a time when you really want another tank.
Were it me, I'd do lots of driftwood, java moss and fern and two or three schools of tetras. Simple, colorfull and easy to maintain.
Can't wait to see pics of it set up!!

Uh... anything other than cichlids?

I clicked 'other' of course, Labby, since you didn't have a option for REEF TANK! :)

I agree with above I would probably plant it and do SA fish
Reef is not a bad idea either if you have the funds

Malawis are always nice, but I'd love to see people with more Tangs or Victorians!

Well...I to would probably suggest reef. But given the fact you plan to have a M/F pair of Nics I would leave the 55G for the gourami...she may not be able to hang well with a mated pair of americans. I would then keep some somewhat smaller SA cichlids with her :22:
I never saw the 'smaller cichlid/ community' option, take one off of other and add one to that please!

So I went to the LFS that specializes in african cichlids of all sorts and took a look around. We were talking and he said with the vics only the dominant male gets the gorgeous coloration, the rest (males and females) stay very drab. That's a bummer because I was leaning towards them.
He does have a huge selection of tanganyikans, as well as a ton of mbuna that are not commonly seen. I've got time to figure it out, thanks for all the input so far! If I can get my hands on some rainbow cichlids that's another option.
