Are there any plecos from malawi? Everything I look at is from SA

I do not beleive there are. I think they are a new world group.

Nope, none from africa that I know of (might be some that are invasive though)... they aren't really needed in a tank though, mbuna are pretty decent algae eaters. However, if you really want a pleco, they're hardy and adapt easily to different water.

Hmm well if i said that my tank has a sand and pebble substarte lots of caves mildly planted and have a fairly strong current will be stock with either mbanas or peacocks and the ph and hardness will be appropiate for them.
And it is in search of a bright colored pleco that can sevive and be a happy addition
what would everybody suggest
oh and pleas no bristle nose please

Have you considered a syno instead of a pleco? Most people I know that have a pleco with mbuna have the bristlenose (which you said you don't want).
