I have a dwarf gourami that i got maybe 7 or 8 days ago. the first few days he would scurry away and hide whenever i came into the room. He still dos this..why? this has never happened with any of my other fish/gourami? will it go away?
also my harlquin were doing something strange, they had they re head up towards the surface, and while staying in-place quickly moved they re tail fins...an one know what this is?
Update on 16 gal cycling w/o fish: ammonia 0, nitrite 3.3(highest) nitrate 110.

My dwarf gourami was the same when I first got him. See below;

Now he's fine, swimming around like all his tank mates. It took over a week, maybe two. They're sensitive to noise. Is your tank in a quiet spot?

What other fish are in the tank. My gouramis did this for the first few days. If it keeps up though there might be another fish in the tank that's picking on him.

the gourami is just getting acclimated, should settle down in a week or so. the harliquins action tells me maybe something is amiss...
that action usually is a result of high nitrates,or possibly ammonia/nitrites.
the other is a low oxygen level. check your water parameters. also see if your surface is agitated enough.

I've had my Dwarf Gourami since June. He still flares up when I approach his tank and hides if I drop something/make a loud noise (which is often, I'm a klutz :lol:) If I do anything at all to his tank besides feed him he hides away.
The Harlequin actions sound a bit off, though.
