View Full Version : Green Slimer Growth

I thought we'd share a few pics of our green slimer. When we got it several months ago we had it in our older tank under t-5's and it quickly turned brown and didn't grow much. About 2 weeks ago we switched it to our new tank with metal halides. After 2 days it was already looked green and began to grow and now its just about encrusted the top of the plug. Now look at it

Before under t-5's

Today under halides

Nice reaction under the new lighting. Great color under the MH!

Thank you. I've been moving all our sps to the new tank. All have started looking much better color wise and growth wise under the halides. Our tank with t-5's is going to become a lps/softie tank

What T5's are you using and what height? I know someone that has a 120g with sun tek lights and his tank is ONLY sps and he has the most amazing growth I've seen. The height of your lights can effect the browning of your sps, esp if the lights are to high.

The after shots were under halides in another tank, but the before were with 4x39 watt HO t-5's that are just 2 inches above the water. 2 10000K bulbs and 2 acentic I'm switching the 10000K's to 140000K's next week cause their just too yellow

When you were using T5HO's, what was the distance between this coral and the bulbs? (or how far from the top were the corals positioned?).

maybe 5 inches from the top

That is odd...my slimer is kicking butt under my T5's, and I have it in the middle of my tank?????

I wonder if its just the bulbs, they are the original factory bulbs. My green cap seems to be doing good under the t-5's. I ordered 2 new 14000K bulbs which should look much better then the 10000K that are in it now

Haven't updated in a while, here it is. I had it shaded under a powerhead for a while and didn't realize, so it lost some color but still grew great. Now its back under full light so it shouldn't take long to regain its color

Very nice growth labnjab. I wish mine grew dense like that. For some reason mine mostly grows vertically. Must be the halides.

Thank you coach. All our sps seem to be branching more the anything. They love the halide. Actually, since switching the t-5's on the softie/lps side to an HQI, they all seem to be doing better as well

Been a long time since I updated Heres a year and a half of growth, even after a few dozen frags...by far our fastest growing coral, its a only 2 inches from the surface
