Our pictus catfish is sick, :scry: he has what looks like pimples or grains of salt all ove his body!! I'm so worried about him, I hope he pulls through. He is my favorite fish. I dosed the tank with 2 jungle brand parasite cleat tabs last night. It's a 29 gallon tank and 1 tab is recommended for every ten gallons. I didn't want to overdose the tank since he is scaleless. I tried to get a picture but my camre refuses to take close-ups. If anyone has any advise or tips please let me know.
Thanks
Candice

That easily sounds like Ich. (pronounced Ick)

Ich meds are your best bet, they are safe and very effective with a high chance of recovery.

I haven't had any experience with Ich but somebody should be able to help you.

I thought Ick was cloudy like cotton on their skin? This is grainy.

Nope, you've got it wrong way around. ick is grainy, fungus is cloudy. Treat for ick...it'll be fine!:ssmile:

sorry for the double post I just read the ich article and I think you all are right. I'll go to the store today and see if I can find some Ich specific medication. Thanks you guys!

Often smaller doses of ich meds are recommended with scaleless fish as they are more sensitive to meds. Also be sure to remove the carbon from the filter if you are using it. The carbon will absorb the meds. Increasing the temperature into the low 80s and adding an airstone will also help.

Thanks for the tips Kinkfisher. I'll be sure and use them all.

Make sure to half-dose with the ich meds cuz pictus' are scaleless and very fragile when it comes to medicating them. IME they are very hard to cure and it'll take a bit longer than normal. Both my pictus' had ich when I bought them a year ago. Since they are scaleless and so delicate, they almost always show signs before any of the other fish.
