Besides the obvious, fishkeeping, what are your favorite hobbies?
My big hobby is horses -- mostly minis. I have one riding horse, but for the past decade, miniatures have been my passion. We have about 20 of them, including some with National Champion titles (halter / conformation and driving). We have them for fun, for driving (cart / harness), as pets, and have a few foals each year. It took a lot of years to put together the breeding herd we have, but it is a lot of fun. I do also like to ride my big horse, but honestly enjoy the minis more and probably will not have another big horse for a long time after "Rocket" is no more. There's a picture of some of my minis below.
I also really love to read (or better, listen to unabridged audio books). Stephen King has been my favorite since I was a kid, but I do also enjoy Dean Koontz (not his early stuff, though). And have a big TV and internet habit (blush)
What about you all? What are some of your other hobbies and passions in life?

Love your horses. An old boss of mine had minatures, too. Wonderful animals.
My only interests are fish, fish tanks, looking on the net for fish things, searching catalogs for fish things, talking 12 hours a day about fish and then sleeping for 4 hours and dreaming about tanks leaking, fish dying, jumping out of the tank, etc.
lol
Guess I can add houseplants in there some of the time.

My main hobby has been horses...unfortunately they haven't been part of my life for the past 4 years since I had to sell my guy to go to pharmacy school. Hopefully in two years or so I'll be able to afford a nice dressage horse and some land for a little farm. Used to show hunter/jumper then switched to a dressage focus. In my younger days I would start the young ones too.
Also, I ran my dog in agility for a while. He has a couple of lower level titles but I didn't have the time to devote to it with school (school getting in the way again!) Did dog training, etc, with my local dog club. It's a lot of fun.
NFL football is I guess a hobby. I watch my Bengals lose every Sunday.

hmmm.... there are other things to do besides fish keeping :hmm3grin2orange: when i'm not doing something for the fish or working or being mommy and wife, 9 times out of ten i'm relaxing. but other things i enjoy would be racing my car (rx7), sky diving, hiking, watching football (go niners), or killing my hubby in halo:hmm3grin2orange: I also enjoy scuba diving when i go on vacation to warmer waters.

Other than taking care of my fish tank, planning new tanks of the future, and spending way too much time on this forum, I enjoy reading, doing puzzles, figuring out the mysteries and patterns of the universe, researching whatever I am interested in at the time, camping, hiking, climbing trees, and web-design... Web design is kind of my job, but considering I work from home for my boyfriend's company it's still fun enough to consider a hobby!
Big camping trip coming up this week!! I hope my roommate takes adequate care of our fish while we're away...

Thank you [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
They are all minis. The ones pictured range from a little over 30" (grey stallion in the lower right corner) to a little over 37" (palomino gelding in the upper right corner). A lot of people expect them to be smaller because the ones that often get publicity are very small, but they are also dwarfs (serious genetic deformity -- it would be heart breaking to have a dwarf born). When most people see mine in person, they are suprised that they "look like real horses, only smaller". It's rare for me to see one I personally like that's under 30". They keep more horse like proportions (and more usefulness) when they are a little bit taller than 30". I like the A size ones to be right around 33" and the B size ones right up as close to 38" as possible thumbs2:

oh yeah hehe.. so what kind of cars do u work on?
Imports, basically Nissan
It really pays off though, i went out to eat before i went to work today, and when i pull out this truck pulls behind me, nothing out of the normal. i keep going, he's still behind me. i get in my residential area, he's behind me, thats a bit fishy.
I pull up to my place, he parks right behind me. i thought i was in crap for speeding or something. he just yelled I WANT TO BUY YOUR CAR! he asked how much and i said i wouldnt sell it ever, he just said its in such great condition for a 92 and how Nissan went all out with it and left after because i wouldnt sell it

I love hiking and being out in nature. Computers. Reading..I love historical fiction...anybody ever read any Allan Eckertt? The Frontiersman, Wilderness Empire, ect.
If I had more time and money, I'd spend more time at the firing range with Jenn.

Nice to see so many horse people! We bred and showed (Halter, English, Western) ponies for a number of years while the kids were little. But once they decided they didn't want to do horses for a hobby anymore we stopped. But we still have 11 horses (retired mostly, a couple are gibbled, 3 are still used for pleasure riding)...and 3 younger ones I would sell if I could find the right buyer...
Other than horses:
Pets (parrots, dogs, cats, fish, chickens, snake)
Music (play violin, sop. sax, viola) - classical
Art (I paint and I love going to galleries to see what everyone else is doing)
...and other stuff...but the above take up most of our time...

other than fishkeeping i would have to say that my favorite hobby is "coffee". i know that a lot of people would'nt consider coffee a hobby, but you know there is nothing like a good strong large cup of coffee to wake you up in the morning. my husband and i like to go to specialty coffee houses together and see if we can find anything new that we havent tried yet. sometimes we stay home and watch coffee documentaries, (there are a few). i even like to go online and talk about coffee with people from all over the world and share what i have discussed with my husband. so like i said before. i know most people wouldnt consider "coffee" a hobby, but hey, i talk about it. i spend money on it and i research it. and most of all i enjoy it. isnt that the definition of "hobby"?

Oh I think that is a good hobby!!! Only I think (know) my own coffee habbit would disgust you... I must have my coffee when I wake up, but I just like want it and want it NOW when I wake up. What I do is turn the tap water on hot, get a tablespoon of Folgers Instant Coffee and dump that into a cup, then add about 1 once of hot water, swish it around and drink it like a shot of medicine!!! I know...... E[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] If I'm taking my time with the coffee, I love McDonalds, which I'm sure is only a little bit smaller of an e[Only Registered Users Can See Links.] with as much as you must know about what's really good and what's not. Kaz, you're just not old enough to realize how awesome coffee is. Coffee got me through pharmacy school, and in fact, I'm having some right now.

I tend to go through phases, but some of the more permament ones are swing dancing, square dancing, sewing, crossword puzzles, photography, writing, graphic design, reading (mostly fiction), and cooking.
I'd have more animal-related hobbies if it were practical for me right now... used to ride horses (mostly western), train my Border Collie in agility, and help my dad with his beehives.

Other hobbies for me would be...fishing, biking, running, RC cars (hopefully helicopters soon too), and computers. Sadly none of my fishtanks are running right now since I tore most of them down during our move and my last tank didn't last very long under the temporary care of somebody else. So I've got a pile of supplies waiting to be used in a new tank haha.
