Hello friends,

My ammonia level is zero, .0.25 ppm, at the most. My nitrite levels are still up around 5 ppm. i haven't tested for nitrates lately. my question is this--the nitrites have been up for about one week now, should I be doing water changes with a gravel vac. to get the nitrite levels down, or do nothing and just give it time ?

Thanks.

you should be doing daily water changes, to help keep it down. I wouldnt recommend vaccuming the gravel as it can prolong or even stall your cycle. definitely do your waterchanges:)

if you are cycling with fish, yes , do water changes but do not vacumn gravel.
if this tank is being cycled without fish leave it alone and just keep adding ammonia to maintain bacteria.
