White stains on the glass.

I don't know if 'Technical' is the right place to post this, but I hope someone will read this and help me.

I have an old, empty aquarium with some kind of white residue on the glass. I don't really know what it is, maybe calcium from the water? How can remove this? Is there any suitable chemical? Can I use ordinary bathroom cleaners if I rinse it off really carefully?

no bathroom cleaners or soap ever.

use vinegar. let it sit on there for 15 minutes, scrub with a soft pad or washcloth, if it isn't gone repeat as necessary.

rinse well.
