I have a white bared cat fish

So I am looking in to tank mates in a 55. they say south American cichilids are good wit them but I perfer the Malawi cichilids. particularly the electric yellow cichilid and the electric blue. both are realitivly small and will be about the size when grown, and are good with Malawi cAtfish that are similar.
is their any reason why that can't live together? I mean water condions are pretty close they both sand and big rocks as sedimentand like caves
Are their any small schooling fish that would be happy in there?

from what i've read about this fish it should not be with anything that is smaller than it's mouth. it will eat other fish. also do you know this fish can reach 12 inches but normally only reach 8. if you happen to have one that gets 8 inches then you will need a bigger tank. also they like the same ph as sa/ca africans like a higher ph that would be a problem if you mixed them.

These fish do not belong with Africans.

oops i looked up an actual whitebarred catfish Synodontis ornatipinnis. the size with that tank will be fine but the ph wont work with africans

The electric blue can also get up to 8" and the yellow is like 6" to big to be food and has mollies and platties and minows in the tank knowand CF Ph level islike 6.2 to 7.2 and Malawi is 6.8- 7.2 so you could keep them both happyright

Nope! Malawis are 7.6 - 8.5. Tottaly different ph and hardness.
You can do NA CA and SA cichlids.
