I'm thinking about using this for chemical filtration. I was wondering what AC's thoughts were on this product and have any of you used it?

Lots of people rave about it. It supposedly is more selective than carbon and can be used in planted tanks. Plus it is reusuable. I am thinking about getting some in the future.

Let me know what you think of it!:22:
I will stick to water changes though. I would rather see all that crap removed and I enjoy how my fish act when they get a water change!

Well you still do water changes, you need to replenish trace elements and such. From what I understand it removes the bad stuff and leaves the good. I don't plan on using it to eliminate water changes or anything silly like that, just get rid of the bad stuff in the water. Supposedly it also helps make the water so clear that you pretty much have to reach in and feel the water to make sure it's not just air. :)

I used purigen on my overstocked mbuna tank and it really did help keep nitrates down. I still did biweekly water changes of about 50% but I was very heavily stocked and the purigen helped me keep nitrates at less than 10ppm. I just bought some more and will be using it in my 55g. It is super easy to recharge too.

as Lab Rat stated, I use it grow out tanks to help keep nitrates down

Hmm, guess I wont be using it then. I do everything I can to keep nitrates up and dont need anything keeping them down.

Don't let them get any higher than 20!

I used Purigen alot in my past SW applications, really keeps organics down which is a big help if your keeping finiky creatures. I plan to also use it again in my up and coming reef. You can get a media bag of it for like $8 and it will last about 6months in most tanks before needing recharged, beats the pants out of other chemical medias. It also significantly raises redox which greatly improves water quality.

I don't have any high tech answers - all I know is I had slighty hazy water (my water looks like that out of the tap) and Purigen was recommended to me and after two days I noticed a difference and a couple days after that my water was - and still is - crystal clear. If I do a large water change (50%) the haze is cleared overnight.

What about using it in a planted tank??

I wouldn't use it in a planted tank as the plants need the nitrogen from the nitrates. You would end up having to dose nitrates and the purigen would just remove them further.
