Hi,
I am setting my fish tank up ready for one Oscar. Obviously there are different types of Oscar and I was wondering if there is anywhere, where I can see pictures of the different types of Oscar available. I ask, as I have tried google and can only get sites that have lists of the different types, but no definitive pictures stating which is which. My LFS doesn't stock Oscars, but they can get one for me and I want to make sure that I order a variety that i will be happy with. Obviously, this means that I can't browse in the shop and just pick one out that I like the look of. At the moment, I am leaning towards getting a Tiger Oscar. Any help would be very appreciated.
Many thanks Ian

Welcome to the Fabulous AC!
I think you will be happy with a Tiger Oscar!
They are great fish to keep as long as you start with the right sized tank.
Theyt are also slobs and can really mess up a tank. You need serious filtration.
You will need a 75gal. tank for one oscar to grow properly. You should have a canister filter and an HOB on the back.I have 2 oscars in a 135 with a pleco and that tank is fully stocked.
I also do two 50% water changes every week to keep the perameters and my tank floor clean.
[Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
You can google oscars and go to images. You wil see all kinds!
Don't forget to cycle your tank and please read the free ebook on the left.

Hi,
I have a 75 gallon tank with a canister filter which I will be supplementing with an internal filter as well (maybe one with UV fitted). It will have black gravel, with a blue background and rocks and driftwood. So hopefully my new addition will like it's home. It is completely different to my community setip with plants, CO2 injection etc. So I am enjoying setting this up. I have tried googling for the pics, but most of them just state Oscar without saying which variety they are lol.
Many thanks for your help.

I have an albino and a black tiger. There are also lemon oscars and man made veil tail oscars. From what I have read the veil tail must be kept alone or the fins get all chewed up.They are easy targets.
Red Oscars and red alinos.
They love to move gravel and tear apart most plants.I leave mine planted with plastic and silk plants to give them something to move around.

gotta love oscars!!! i have an albino red oscar at the moment he is ok, but nowhere near as fun as my tiger oscar was (had him for nearly two years, but sadly didnt survive me moving house - i suspect foul play on my aunties behalf but i cant be sure). if i culd choose my most recent oscar again i think id get another tiger. they seem to have lots more personality and character.... unless im just not giving this one a chance cause it isnt exactly my old one im not sure. but good luck to you with whatever type you get.

Well, I've gone for the plunge as I actually managed to find a LFS that sells Oscars. It wasn't my fault, they had a beautiful tiger Oscar with fantastic markings. He isn't that happy at the moment as he doesn't seem to like the lights on, so I may take out one tube and reduce the lighting a little as I have 2 T8's in the tank. He's a little bigger than I was going to go for originally (he's about 3.5") but his markings are so good, that it makes up for it. I will post a pic as soon as I get one.

Your oscar is just sulking! lol
They do that when introduced to a new home! They have a huge personality!
Give it time to adjust to the tank!Enjoy your fish!
Are you going to get anything else for the tank?

Not with the size of my tank, I want him to be happy and have plenty of room. I will post a pic of him when i get round to taking one.
