I got a Betta in my 40 Gal community tankthumbs2: Just imagine the vastness of that size of an aquarium compared to a teeny tiny cup!!! lol. Anyway, he seems to be doing well in there, no aggression issues, and he's a great centrepiece fish :)

We wish you the best of luck with this as we tried the same thing this weekend and unfortunately had to remove the Betta (why he had to wait until 9pm on Sunday,he'd been in there for over 24hr at this point, is beyond us though!).
As we've read many times on this forum adding a Betta to a community tank can be a hit or miss, and the call has to be left up to the Betta.
Again, enjoy your new community member, as they do add a wonderful splash of color :)
Cool!!! :19:
Make sure you have a floating plant in there for him...I think that might be a 'must-have'...

do you have any problems with the other fish nipping at your betta's fins?

So far, no problems :) Mr. Betta seems to be doing just fine. The only problem I've had is that I don't see him eating yet. Not to say that he hasn't maybe found something on the bottom or something, but he hasn't come up to eat flakes, blood worms, or anything. I haven't noticed any nipping at all, by the other fish, or by the Betta. :) IF I do encounter any problems, I do have an empty 10 gal that is cycled and ready to go lol. I might get another Betta to go in there, but I'm not sure yet what I want to put in there.
Rue-thanks for the tip on the floating plant, I'll have to get one.

Glad to hear everything is working out alright. When my betta was in my 20gal ccommunity he never really ate. I had to drop food right above him so he would see it and i almost forcefed him. Good luck!

I'm lucky. I got one that's healthy, a good tankmate, eats flake and likes to swim around a lot. He even flares at a finger occasionally! My only problem is that he's kind of brave and likes to swim around my hand as I clean the tank. I prefer the critters keep away from the siphon.
