Boil it, soak it outside the tank for days. Change the water daily.

You could also leave it there and put carbon in your filter.

If you can than boiling it is a great way. Change your water often .It may take all day but they will stop coming out eventually. If the water is still a light tea color after 5 minutes its ready to go in your tank once its cooled.

It will leach for quite a while.Use carbon in the filter to remove it for a few months.IME,mopani tends to release tannins for longer then driftwood.Or you could learn to like the color as the fish do and just leave it alone.

Boiling, soaking, and then carbon filtration are about all you can do to get rid of the tannins.

IMO I prefer to go natural like the fish like, and let the tannin go in the tank.
I have found that with good lighting, and a good amount of live plants the tannin really dose suit quite well.

Not to mention the fish are more happy with it.

As for mopani wood it will even after boiling take a long to time get rid of it's tannin. Mine is two years old now, and still leaching!!!

Yep, just use filter cartridges with carbon in them, and it'll remove the tannins.

Yes, that is correct. Sorry I didn't make myself clear on that.

Sounds like boiling it would be faster and cheaper,if you have cartridges.

Boil it, collect the water, boil that down and sell the "extract" for tetra keepers!

I've lost count of how many times i've boiled my driftwood... I'm sure my largest is close to 24 hrs, it still leaches.. some people prefer the look, I don't have the proper lighting to make it look nice, I usually find a 25% weekly WC will clear the tank right up.

I have tried boiling wood for up to two days, and the tanin still comes out. And it is still coming out after 1 year now.
