Hi! :22: My name is Ralph, I'm new to fishkeeping and i absolutely love it!(started 2 months ago). I went through all the difficulties that newbies go through, but i guess, after several fish dead and replaced during the first month, the aquarium settled into this combination:
I'm abit overcrowding my 15 gallon tank, but well, i try to keep filtration and aeration efficient... and the fish are still small in size, smaller than their adult sizes, except for the Betta and the 3 tiger barbs.
Its been ok for 1 month thumbs2: ...
Im using an external power-filter (i think thats what its called), in addition to an air pump for bubbles
>> Artificial plants FTW!
19 fish:
5 Green Tiger Barbs
3 Tiger Barbs
2 Silver Dollars
2 Bala Sharks (still max 12 cm in length, i think they dont get much bigger in a small place)
1 Platy (1 of his friends died, the other is sick in a quarantine 3Gallon tank)
1 Swordtail (his friend died too :( )
1 Clown Loach (i love it!)
1 Serpae Tetra (his friend got stuck in the filter pump and was cut in half... i sealed it with a kind of plastic grill to prevent that)
1 Pleco
1 Corydoras
1 Betta Splendens (Dark Blue with purple body!) (the Greens might have nipped his back fin, but he seems happy enough, moving around and occasionally sitting on the heater's sucker plastics)
They all seem to like each other; sometimes, they bunch up together to what seems a strange inter-species school of fish without anyone attacking anyone and just scouting each other.... well, except for the Cory and the Betta
I love to put more fish in there but i cant! and i couldn't break my budget by getting a bigger tank
If anyone has a OH NO ur doing things all wrong or a suggestion for a suitable addition/replacement fish i would be thankful. PS: im looking for some colorful fish
So there, im glad to have found this forum

I dont mean to be the "Bad Guy" here, but you are incredibly overstocked
You can get the tiger barbs to get 3" a peice
The silver dollars will get at least 8"-12"
I would not even begin to reccomend balas in anything under a 100 gallon tank, as they will grow large.
A new tank that is much larger should be on your wish list.
Anyway, welcome to the A.C.!

Ouch. Like many new combers, you started with the wrong fish. Bala sharks are aggressive swimmers and get to be 8-12 inches long. They need a large tank.....like 75 gallons. Silver Dollars like to be with several of their own kind and can get from 5-8 inches.
Hated to start with the bearer of bad news but there it is.
Welcome to AC.

Welcome! And I agree with what the others said. You can often find second hand tanks for a really good price.

Hi & welcome...:11: you will find alot of great people here and they all care about fish... take their advice! I am only about 3 months along in fishkeeping myself, so I won't offer any advice on your actual choices, but I found a 2nd hand 46 gallon bow front tank and stand with filters on craigslist for $150. If you are happy with your fish, make the investment, and read the free ebook in the menu on the left.

Welcome to AC, I went through the same overcrowding thing, with many the same sort of fish in a 15G, my warning to you is, start looking around now for as large a tank as you can afford and acommadate, you are going to need it soon.

I found my 29 gallon with filter and heater for $30 on craigslist. It is very worth checking out whether its a popular community in your area.
Welcome :)

you could always take your fish back to the store and trade them in for some smaller fish if you're not to set on these particular species. If you don't want a bigger tank some smaller varieties of tetras might do along with some guppies or platies.
