View Full Version : 55 gallon guppy party tank
Within the month if all goes well I'll be setting up the 55 gallon guppy party tank, planted 55. I am seriously considering trying out a Fluval 405 for this tank. I've always been an Eheim guy but I hear so many good things about the Fluvals. Any thoughts about the 405? I thought about the 305 but I think it would be too small. Am I thinking properly?

I don't know man.Is a 55 big enough to handle the bio load of a guppy?
Your gonna need a bigger tank than that! They are aggressive!
OMG really? I was just thinking about keeping 3 guppies in there! Okay, so if I upgrade to a 500 gallon tank do you think that would be okay? :hmm3grin2orange:
Just as an aside, this tank will end up replacing 3 10 gallon tanks I currently have running, all guppies of different color variations except my one "miscellaneous" tank where I keep remnants of larger schools of tetras I used to keep. So, the Bettas I have get upgraded from a 5.5 and 2.5 gallon tank, respectively to a full 10 and I get a new 55. Pretty cool deal.
Now, in all seriousness, I wonder how many guppies can be kept in a 55? I will eventually get a school of corys in addition to the guppies.

(blush) I have up to 100 in a 35 with 80gals. of filtration and two water changes per week. There was a lot of juvies and fry in that group.I take at least 75/month to my lfs! lol
I am thinking about giving all of them to her on my next trip.
In a 55 you can safely have a lot with the water changes.Guppies may be small but they crap a lot!:hmm3grin2orange:

Gary, I have a Fluval 305 on my 55gallon, and it does the job. My tank is slightly overstocked as well....(blush)

I had two fluvals a LONG time ago (canisters). One was the biggest they had which I used for my 120g. The other was for my 40g (smaller of course). I never had ANY problems with them and that was probably 25 years ago! I would hope that they have improved since then!
