I have a twenty gallon aquarium with one Male dwarf gourami, 6 neon tetras, 1albino cory cat. I had a female gourami as well, but she died. I'm debating about whether to replace her with 2 females instead of 1. Although the pair that I had got along for the most part, the male would occasionally chase the female around. Would having a ratio of 2:1 female to male eliminate some of the male aggression?

All depends. Gouramis temperments can vary from coming up and rubbing against your fingers, to massacreing everything in the tank. (Granted, the latter would probably only be acquired with a great deal of stress on the gourami.)

It might lessen some of his aggression, or you may just have an aggressive one.

Also; Not everyone knows how to sex Dwarf Gouramis. Are you sure it was a female (ie: what color was it)? Just curious/making sure.

She was definitely a female. No color, and the dorsal find was rounded. It's next to impossible to find females. Most pet stores (including the one I work for) don't carry them because they are not pretty to look at. There is one place where I live that actually sells them (has a tank full of them).

Alright, thank you. Most people don't realize Dwarf Females are truly practically colorless. Just making sure you knew. =]

You could always ask if you could return the female(s) if it is truly an aggression problem on his part if you want to try it again.
