So I bought a fluval 305 for my 55 gallon about a month or two ago but never got around to setting it up.
I finally decided tonight was the night and got started. I don't know if I am just a special kind of slow tonight or what but it took me FOUR HOURS to set the dang thing up - thats including 4 overflows, 3 wrong setups, one forgotten lid, and 2 near electrocutions.
Awesome.
lol.
I finally have it going - it seemed SUUUUPER powerful so I have it running with the lever half up, which lessens the flow... I usually let the water output "splash" into the tank a LITTLE, but I have to have this fully submerged or it creates enormous currents.
Anyhow it seems to be going well... I hope. lol.
So now I am running a fluval 305 canister and an aquaclear 70 HOB filter. I would ASSUME I am good on the filtration now.. lol.

Yikes! 2 near electrocutions, those are the problems i'd worry about lol. I don't think you were slow, that seems about right. Its how long it took me for my first canister, only the first 3 hours was spent looking at the pieces and rearranging media lol Good Job getting it together, and yes, i think you're set for filtration thumbs2: Ya gotta admit, its not the worst way to spend a friday night

True - my boyfriend who got roped into helping me might say otherwise though, lol.
The electrocution scares weren't THAT imminent. BUT I had it all plugged in and then it started overflowing TWICE because I had the lid on wrong. The water was never allowed to get too close to the put but if I has forgotten it was all plugged in... I probably would have been screwed, lol.

tweak its an external filter but instead of hanging on the back of the tank its usually under the stand with hoses running into the tank. much better filtration most of the time but more expensive also
