Out of nowhere my medusa opened up spikes on its jawline today below the eye, was cool to see

All species of Ancistrus have those spines. They're a pretty effective defense mechanism, though I think the loaches have a better one. The bony spines under their eyes are thicker and stronger, more like a small blade than a bunch of cactus spines.
